SAP CONSULTANT at Saint-Gobain

SAP CONSULTANT at Saint-Gobain
Since 2009

SaintGobain

SAP R/3 Consultant on PP,WMS ,MM,CO module:

I was working for the container branch (specialized in the glass containers), this branch count more than 16 000 employees, 13 Factories + 3 commercial offices. there were about 3000 Users on the SAP system.
My office was based in la defense Paris, but my mission were abroad, mainly in the USA (Muncie, Indiana) and Sao-Paulo (Brazil).

This Position was split in 2 main tasks, Support and Project:
- Support (about 30% of my time): as European factories (5 plants) where already on SAP system,  SAP team as to provide maintenance/ support and improvement to user
- Project  (about 70% of my time)  2 main Projects USA and Brazil.

USA SAP Project (Muncie, Indiana):

Project Scope: Full SAP integration (replacement of an old AS400 mainframe system) 5 factories.
I was in Charge of the PP, WMS interface (red prairie), MM.

my tasks:
- assess current AS400 system, describe a formalize functional gap with our SAP standard system. then try to fit a maximum of processes to SAP standard. or write highly detail functional specification for overseas development platform (India).
- Customizing PP, and MM to fit US legal requirement and specificity.
- Training of Key Users.
- Costing: check all the costing consistency on production and MM point of view with the FI/CO consultant.

Brazil SAP Project (Sao-Paulo):
Project Scope : Full SAP integration for 3 factories about 200 system user.
Similar task as the USA project above.

My Point of view about this position:
Pros:
- it was really interesting to work on a fully integrated information system with more than 3000 users. those project were high priority for Saint Gobain Management, there were an incredible dynamic in the project team.

Cons:
- Big project, big team sometime lead over specialization of consultant. so in that case the scope of responsibility was pretty narrow (PP module). no other project plan by Saint-Gobain after US and Brazil.
